August 2014

·         On 3rd August 2014 the 4th FMAF Maharashtra State Level Karate Championship was organized by Sensei – Rupesh Rathod – Firewings Martial Arts Foundation at Smt.Savitridevi Thirani Vidyamandir, Thane. Our student Mst.Omkar J Patel of Std.VI-A won the First prize i.e Gold Medal in KATA (Moves) & Third Prize i.e Bronze Medal in KUMITE (Fight).

·         Coaching in Roller Skating started in the school from 7th August 2014 onwards every Wednesday & Thursday under the guidance of Mr.Ayyappan Naidu for 9 months (August to April) between 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm – 1st batch & 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm – 2nd batch.

·         The month brought with it colours as well as brotherly feelings. The pre-primary tiny tots celebrated Raksha Bandhan on 8th August 2014 by tying Rakhis. They were all dressed in traditional attire. The girls tied rakhi on the wrist of the boys from their class and the boys in return gifted them chocolates. A lovely gesture to grace this festival!

·         Jr.Kg A & B (09/08/14) and Jr.Kg C & D (23/08/14) participated in the fancy dress competition with great enthusiasm. The theme ‘Around the world’ was very well depicted by the tiny tots.

·         The boys under 14 participated in the Subroto Mukherji Cup for football at the district level conducted on 7th August 2014 and 8th August 2014 by DSO Kalyan at Fatima Ground Ambernath and won the 2nd place in it. The girls under 17 also won the 2nd place in the same competition.

·         Assessment of Scholastic Skills in Educational Techniques (ASSET) – a venture of IIM – Ahmedabad Alumni was conducted from Std.III to X in the 2nd week of August i.e from 9th August’14 to 14th August’14. This assessment evokes lateral and analytical thinking in students and enhances their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical life. Results with subject wise analysis for each class is expected in the month of October.

·         Manthan – Art , Craft & Science festival was held from 10/08/14 to 16/08/14 at Arya Gurukul School in Kalyan. 40 students actively participated in 7 different categories and the following students won glory to our school –

·         On 11th August’14 Interhouse Table Tennis event for classes VI to VIII was held

·         From 11th August’14 to 16th August’14 Group B – Inter House Singing (PR) was held for classes III & IV.

·         Brishty Dey of I-B participated in the Inter School recitation competition held at Arya Gurukul School, Kalyan on 11th August’14. Her topic was ‘Role of Gadjets’.

·         Good eating habits lead to good health. Taking a step towards good health, pre-primary children celebrated ‘Fruit Day’ on 12th August’14. Children got 1 fruit each and spoke about it. An activity of making fruit salad and eating it was done to inculcate healthy eating habits in children.

·         To encourage and motivate children to read more and learn more. We Birla School in association with Scholastic – The World’s Largest Publisher and Distributor of children’s books organized ‘A Book Fair’ with the latest and the best books from National & International publishers of great repute on 12th August’14 & 16th August’14 for classes Nursery to XII from 3:15 pm to 4:10 pm.

·         Birth of Lord Krishna ‘Janmashtami’ was celebrated by Pre-Primary on 14/08/14. A mesmerising group dance on ‘Radha Kaise na jale’ and a sweet renderation of ‘Mhara Prabhuji’ (a Gujarati song) by Sr.Kg students left everyone spellbound! After the performances children participated in ‘Dahi Handi’ and danced to the tunes of Gopalkala songs. A craft activity of ‘Decorating the Handi’(paper collage) and colouring of ‘flute’ was a fitting finale for the festival.

·         The Independence Day on 15th August 2014 was celebrated with great patriotism. The guest of honour for the function was our school alumni – Ms.Siddhi Mehta who left the audience surprised with her oratorical skills. The students also presented the Guard of honour, group song, group dance related to patriotism and brotherhood. Speech and a poem in English on our ‘Motherland’ was also presented. Everyone was feeling proud to be an ‘Indian’.

·         Eye Donation Campaign was organized on 16th August 2014. As it was the open day for classes Nursery to VIII & XI it helped us to reach many parents. Students along with the help of teachers set up the lamp. Posters with the information on ‘Eye-Donation’ was stuck all over the school walls. Almost 40 pledges have been received. The camp definitely helped in promoting awareness and knowing the procedures of eye-donation.

·         Discover your Brain – an awareness activity of the ‘Brain Analysis Test’ through finger prints was introduced on 16th August’14 to uncover the inborn hidden talents of students by Ms.Shilpa and her team. The analysis was done through dermatoglyphics. In this technique with the help of palm ridges, the neuron distribution of brain lobes are counted. The report was a combination of medical Science, neuroscience & psychology. The report of this unique assessment would help the child understand his characteristics / nature, strength and weakness, thinking style, acquiring method, best suitable learning style etc. in a scientific way. It also helps the child to select best suitable career options.

·         The Institute of Mathematics Education organized MAT (Maths Aptitude Test) for classes V to VIII on 16th August’14. 81 students participated in the test which was held in Birla School itself. Students who score 60% or more would be selected for the next level i.e JMO(Junior Maths Olympiad) on 1st Feb 2015.

·         On 17th August’14 a quiz competition was organized by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Dadar. Two students were selected, trained and participated in the quiz giving a tough competition to the competitors. They were Padmaja Chavan – IX – B and Sakshi Mishra XI – A

·         5th TOKI Indo – Srilanka Karate Championship was organized by Sesei Chaitanya Sawant of Shotokan Karate – Do Federation at Maratha Mandal Hall, Mulund on 17th August’14. Our students Manrajsingh S Chandok – VI – B won the 1st Prize and awarded the Gold Medal in KUMITE (Fight) Well done & keep it up!

·         The tiny – tots of the pre-primary section participated in large numbers for the story telling competition held on 21st August 2014 Stories with moral values were very well narrated by the children.

·         All India Camel Colour Contest – 2014 was conducted on 22nd August’14 for classes Jr.Kg to VIII during the regular school hours. A drawing paper of size 15” x 11” was provided by the school to each child. The following were the groups and the topics -

·         On 23rd August 2014 ‘the following Inter House Competitions were held –

·         Birla College, Kalyan in association with Century Rayon, Shahad, KDMC, Social Forestry Department, Colleges & Schools of nearby area and also the social organizations like Giant International, Rotary International & other NGO’s organized ‘Vriksha Dindi’ to create awareness about ‘Green Environment’ on 24th August’14. Students of std.VII actively participated in the event Kudos to them!

·         Actions speak louder than words. On 25th August 2014 students of std.IX & X collected a very good amount of Rs.57,307/- donating to CHILDLINE India, Foundation (CIF) and helping in providing the children in distress their right to a dignified childhood & a humane environment, helping to shape the present and the future of our nation. We thank you for your patronage dear students!

·         Orange Day was celebrated by the pre-primary section on 28th August 2014. Children were dressed in orange outfits and children had to bring an orange object to school and had to speak a few lines about it. Students enjoyed making orange paper fans.

·         In the Marrs Pre – School Bee – National Championship Vaishnavi Gangadhara – Jr.Kg – A won the 8th rank and Krishika Rathod – Jr.Kg – B received the ‘Budding Star’ award on 31st August 2014 Congratulations!

·         The 5th SKSA State Level Shotokan Karate Championship (2014) was organized by Shihan Jeevan Goud of Shotokan Karate Self-Defence Academy at Thane, Jillha Koli Samaj Hall on 31st August 2014. Anish S Jadhav – VI – A won the 3rd Place – Bronze Medal in Karate (Moves) & 3rd Place Bronze Medal in KUMITE (Fight). Also Prashant P Pandey of VI – A won the 2nd Place – Silver Medal in KATA (Moves) Congratulations!
