Show And Tell Competition

Pre - Primary “Show and Tell Competition” was held on August 11, 2016, Thursday. Show and Tell aims to teach young students about public speaking skills and thereby building their confidence. The theme given to them was Story Book. Children explained about the publication, author, characters and also gave a brief description about the story. Kudos to the Tiny Tots!!!!

Independence Day Celebrations- Azaadi 70 –Yaad Karo Qurbani

We celebrated the 70th Independence Day by paying tribute to all the freedom fighters who contributed and fought for the independence of our country.

Students from Primary, Secondary, and Senior Secondary sections participated in different events like March Past, Speeches, Patriotic Songs and Dance to express the joy of our freedom.

The school has a unique practice of inviting its alumnus for flag hoisting on this day. To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the guest of honour Mr. Parav Karia a noted golf player at National Level, unfurled the tricolor flag which was followed by the singing of National Anthem. He addressed the gathering by throwing light upon the importance of the day and also spoke about the contribution of today’s generation in taking the county to a greater height. At the end sweets were distributed among the students.

The school celebrated the Independence fortnight with great enthusiasm with a range of activities. Students of pre-primary section performed various activities like Palm printing the tri colour, drawing and colouring our national flag by using sponge dabbing technique, thumb printing, colouring with crayons, etc. They also drew and coloured the national flower and the national bird. Around 594 students participated in these activities.

Students from Std. IV – VI made Greeting Cards for our soldiers. They prepared the cards in the school and wrote messages for our soldiers, thanking and appreciating their effort. In all, 343 students participated in the activity.

Students of Std VII and VIII participated in Slogan writing competition. Best slogans were rewarded. Around 45 students participated in the competition. Slogans were displayed outside the classrooms. These activities were held from 15th August, 2016 to 23rd August, 2016.

CBSE Master Trainers Programme

Trainings and workshops are a platform to address academic issues in the ever changing global world. Threading ahead, CBSE Centre of Excellence, Pune conducted a ‘Two Day Master Trainers Programme’ for class X Math and English on 16th and 17th August, 2016 at Birla School, Kalyan. The aim of the workshop was to face the challenging areas in English and Mathematics and to improvise the teaching- learning methodology. It was conducted under the guidance of Asst. Professor and Deputy Director Mrs. Arunima Mazumdar, CBSE Training Centre Pune.

Mr. Rajeev Garg, Principal of Seven Square Academy, Mira Road and Mr. Sivaramakrishna helped to equip the teachers with varieties of activities in the teaching and learning of Math. Challenging areas and common errors in Mathematics and teaching diverse learners was discussed in detail.

Ms. Namrata Majhail, Principal of the Orchid School, Pune and Ms. Poonam Keshwani, from Gopi Birla School, discussed objectives which may be useful to design activities in English and plan questions keeping in mind the level of the students. The session enlightened the teachers on how to transcend from a good teacher to a great teacher, keeping in mind the changing demands of the students of the present generation. The workshop proceeded with a fruitful discussion on how to sensitize the students to understand the intricacy of the language.

Ms.Archana Saini and Ms. Revati Negi from Mathematics Department and Ms. Amarpreet Kaur and Mr. Selwyn D’souza – From the English Department participated in the workshop.

The session ended with an open forum for discussion, feedback followed by certificate distribution. 

Raksha Bandhan Celebrations

Our Pre-Primary students celebrated Raksha Bandhan festival with great fervour and enthusiasm on August 17, 2016. Students wore traditional Indian attire. Teachers explained the students the significance of this festival. Children were told about the sacred bond between a brother and a sister. Girls tied rakhis on the wrist of boys. After tying rakhis, boys gave chocolates in return as gifts.

Capacity building in Social Science

Ms. Medha Vaze and Ms. Jenibha Stephen from the Social Science Department participated in the capacity building workshop in Social Science at All Saints High School on the 19th and 20th of August 2016. The resource person Ms. Seema Nair and Ms. Kiran Singh briefed the teachers with different methods and strategies to teach Social Science. The workshop empowered the teachers with the skill of incorporating assessment in their lesson plans and making the teaching learning process more systematic.

Fruit Day

‘Fruit Day’ was celebrated on August 23, 2016, Tuesday by the students of the preprimary section. The event began with a Fruit Shop displaying different types of fruits (real and 3D paper models). Teachers brought their respective classes to the Fruit Shop and explained to them all the different types of fruits. Children also brought one favourite fruit and spoke a few lines about it. Teachers along with the children sang fruit rhymes and had a good time while preparing a tasty and nutritious fruit salad which was shared with all the students in the class. Group activity was an Apple Tree made with loofa sponge dabbing of green colour and small cutouts of apples stuck on it by Jr. KG and thumb printing on fruit basket by Nursery. Teachers also dramatized a small story to help the children understand why fruits are an important part of our diet.

Janmashtami Celebrations

Pre-Primary Department wore a festive look on August 24, 2016, Wednesday for Janmashtami celebrations with the students in colourful, traditional attires of Radha and Krishna. The little Krishnas and Radhas looked adorable in their traditional costumes, and the entire area was transformed into a land of joy, celebrations and happiness. The naughty little Krishnas were all set to sway and dance with Radhas. The “matki phod” event was thoroughly enjoyed by all the Tiny Tots. Activities included colouring Krishna’s crown and sticking a peacock feather by Jr. KG and vegetable printing on Matki by Sr. KG students.

Goal Setting and Time Management Workshop

The Goal setting and Time management workshop was conducted on the 26th and 29th of August for the students of Std X and Std IX respectively. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Ramnath Dixit-a renowned certified trainer known for his expertise in the field of conducting workshops on goal setting, time management, stress management, etc. Setting a realistic goal and managing the time to achieve the set goals is the foundation for one’s success. The school trains the students of Std IX and X to manage their time to meet deadlines, prevent burnout, discover better options and make smart decisions in this competitive world.

Orange Day

Orange Day was celebrated on August 31, 2016, Wednesday, to acquaint the little ones with the concept of Orange colour and objects related to it. The classrooms and corridors were beautifully decorated with orange-coloured objects, balloons, ribbons and toys.  Children dressed up in different shades of orange.  They brought cutouts, toys and other orange objects, took part in object talk exhibiting their speaking skills and enhancing the recognition of orange colour.  Students were

 

given a thorough understanding of the colour “Orange” through different activities like colouring an ice candy, sponge dabbing on orange fruit, etc.  Children also learnt that Orange colour forms the first band of our Indian Flag.  The enthusiastic and cheerful Toddlers enjoyed orange day celebration.

 

Art and Craft Activity Gallore

  • Std. VI - Eco friendly Clay Ganesha making activity was conducted and the beautifully decorated Ganesha idols were displayed during the school Ganesh festival celebration.

  • Std. VII - Umbrella painting was conducted and will be displayed during the Annual exhibition.

  • All India Camel Colour Contest 2016 was conducted for classes Jr.  KG.to Std. VIII on 30.8.16 & 31.8.16.  

     

    Experiential learning through Field Trips

    Class I Students were taken to a departmental store in Kalyan on 2nd and 3rd August to explain different food items that are needed to remain healthy.

    Class VIII students were taken to the Birla College Plant tissue culture Lab on the 11th of August to learn about various tissue culture techniques. They had an expert talk on the same topic by Dr. Avinash Patil , Vice Principal Birla College prior to the trip.

    Class VII Students were taken to The Karnala Bird Sanctuary and Mehrali Yusuf Centre on the 19th Of August. They learnt about cottage industries-pottery, soap manufacturing, wood carving and oil extraction.

    Dr. Prakash Vaze Sports Foundation organised Rapid Chess Competition on 7th August, 2016 at Maratha Mandal Hall, Mulund.Master .Aradhya Tikam secured the second prize in U-9 Boys category.
